I’m an opinionated cybersecurity guy who does startups, turnarounds and reboots. This is my personal site. I say what I think, share what I like and throw rocks quite freely. I am all or nothing.

I invest sweat equity and my money and resources, taking a fair cut from roadkill and a slice of the equity in the business, with the goal of winning on the exit.
This aligns me with the founders and other shareholders. Some think it’s a just a cheap way to get rolling, and they prefer to pay up front. Some think the low entry ticket is a reflection on my abilities and talents. These people are better off getting tumescent by overpaying someone to be their guy or gal.
The usual rule for startups expanding into the US is to hire a cheap rube to break the ground, with offers of future glory. Then to fire him or give him a boss who fires him. This #2 guy will till the soil and plant some seeds. He thinks he is going to reap what he sows…
Then he will be replaced with “the growth guy”, who gets some budget. He may be a transplant from head office. He gets the money and options. But he is still on a leash and wearing the collar.
I don’t wear a collar and won’t be on a leash. I only work with people I like, and I enjoy what I do.

I used to be an Advertising Agency guy. I loved it. I am fascinated by techniques for motivating people to do things. I no longer watch read or consume ads. Do not watch tv. Do not listen to radio.
