As the dollar sags under the weight of everything, gold has been nudging up.
If “it can’t go on”, then it won’t. Meanwhile, in the parallel universe America known as The Beltway, it is going on. Spending. Since 2008, when “$trillion” became the mot du jour, we have been speeding down the highway, lights out, looking in the collective rear view mirror.
Those receding lights are our childrens’ futures. But hey! As long as gesture politics and the destruction of wealth wins elections, we might as well enjoy our journey back to the future.
Just don’t assume that the future is always better than the past or present.
